Data Probe Information Page: Dissolved OxygenLori Ann, Roberta,Kerry, Dan
Purpose of Probe: To measure the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water.
How do Scientists Use this Measurement? Use the measurement to determine if there is enough oxygen in the water to allow the organisms living there to survive.

Setup / Calibration Instructions
Record the steps that a student would use to calibrate or use this probe. 1. Turn on the Lab Quest 2. Plug the DO sensor into the Lab quest 3. Let the probe warm up for ten minutes. 4. Pull out the stylus and tap the Channel with the DO connected 5. Tap Calibrate 6.Tap Calibrate now 7. Dry off probe from water and insert 1-2 cm in the sodium sulfite solution 8. When the reading is stabilized between .2V-.5V, enter zero in the reading 1 known value and press keep. 9. Put 1/4" of water in the calibration bottle. 10. Unscrew the bottle and slide the grommet 1/2" onto the probe, screw the cap on and take a measurement. 11.Wait for the probe to stabilize around 2V 12. Type in the correct value according to temperature and pressure from Table 1 pg.5. Hit keep and ok. 13. Place probe into water to be tested and stir slowly until the reading stabilizes.
How do I know that the probe is working properly? Test it in a liquid for which you know the what the DO value should be.
Possible Applications/Projects: To test overall water quality more specifically, to test water quality for possible hypoxia and apoxia conditions.
